  • Leading USDA-NIFA SCRI funded projects to study the boxwood microbiomes, including impacts of:
    • Fungicide treatments on boxwood phyllosphere microbiome
    • Anti-desiccant on boxwood phyllosphere microbiome
    • Geoclimatic region and cultivar on boxwood phyllosphere and soil microbiome
    • Fertilization on boxwood phyllosphere and root endophytes and rhizosphere microbiomes
    • Irrigation on boxwood phyllosphere endophytes
  • Preparing Nanopore MinION sequencing libraries and performing sequencing
  • Developing bioinformatics pipelines and curating databases for metagenomic analytics
  • Performing sequencing data analytics using R and Python
  • Designing and conducting greenhouse and field experiments

    • Characterizing microbiome in tare soils from seed potatoes
    • Using DNA metabarcoding to study plant-pollinator interactions
    • Characterizing crayfish diets in John Day river
    • Examining diet breath of phytophagous insect pests in potato
  • Performing bioinformatics and sequencing data analytics
  • Creating and deploying disease forecasting web applications:
    • R-shiny app for sequence blasting
    • Python Dash web app to forecast late blight disease using Johnson’s model
    • NodeJS web app to forecast late blight disease using Wallin’s model

  • Hosting bioinformatics workshop for lab members
